Austrian German is different from German spoken in Germany. Just say you're not from Austria and they'll switch to High-German immediately. Except if you're in Vienna, people in Vienna are more likely to just ignore you and not change anything for people from other countries.

If you ever come back to Austria, go to Graz. It's a nice city as well!
