Arena PvP System Rewamp

  • -EN-

    1) If you're Star Rank, you should be able to get matched against ALL Star Ranks, not just the one with an AP tier similiar to you.

    Explanation:

Right now if you're high Star(like me)you're only able to match against like ~10 person on the ranking board, because the system won't allow you to get matched against someone with lower AP tier.

So if those people aren't online you can't basically do PvP for like months.

Instead you should be able to and yeah, you should gain less % by winning against a Star with lesser AP tier, but you should STILL match him, since he is of your same rank.

Also idk why but this mechanics only works with Star Rank since they have "unlimited" AP tier since there's not rank after that.

    2) Leagues should last for 1 month only, maybe giving a bit less rewards.

    Explanation:

With a 1 month league Arena would be more alive, since in one month you're not able to farm a lot of AP tiers so matchmaking would be smoothly.

There would be more tension to fight for the first place and for the top placement, since there's less time, and thus more fun.

With the current 3 month leauge, if anyone starts, for example, doing Arena during the second month, the first in the ranking board will already have a crazy AP tier, so

there are low chances for him to even get in top 10.

Also that's why people don't do Arena at all, it's useless to compete when you're 100% sure you'll just waste your time and gain nothing.

    Sorry for the bad english.

  • There's more improvements besides the ones you said that need to be made. I agree on the most , but lots of people of course won't enter PvP due to the lag situation, as well as the poor balancing and the amount of abusable bugs that currently is round and about.

What also needs to be improved should be the % gaining on NPCs if you do not get matched to anyone else (at least the higher NPCs), as well as not matching SSS/S++ people to C ranks. That is a wasted match for both sides. Matches should be kept in 1 to the upper rank and 1 below (so S+ matching to S and S++).

Also, I'd alternatively like to suggest a Rookie and a Junior league, seperating people for ex. below lv50 and lv85 from the high lv (85-99) PvP tiers, so first time players wont right away get obliterated by lv99 people and get scared off the game.

Actually, besides latino americans, lag isn't a major problem. Like, having ~1s or less delay isn't a big issue(speaking of 2v2), so I don't understand why you say is a major problem.

In fact top ranks in the board aren't even latino americans and most of top people are FR/DE/IT, which generally has decent internet.

Also there aren't major bugs in Arena(apart from the "bring-a-lower-rank-to-farm-more" one, but I don't consider it as a bug), but yeah, poor balancing is Elsword's true essence.

In my opinion, NPC system should never exist in the first place.

What's the point on always getting NPCs after 3 min queue if, after you get Star Rank, they don't give %?

Plus the fact that if you're high AP tier Star Rank and there's no one else apart from you doing Arena, you just keep getting NPCs who don't give % for 2+ hours.

Also, if they would give %, a person could only just farm NPC during night time and become a top rank.

So either way it's a stupid system.

I don't know why the matching system works differently from E to SSS and Star Rank and above. I would rather a system like it was during S1~S3, where you could match anyone that was on your same rank, 1 rank lower and 1 rank higher(as you said),without having to check the AP tier.

Right now the matchmaking is made for big servers, so top ranks should can only get matched against top ranks and low rank people can rank fast because they can find SSS rank people, independently of their actual rank.

Problem is that EU isn't a big server and the PvP community is just a niche compared to all the people, so the ranking board's AP tier isn't spread equally: top 10° has like very high AP tier(with big AP tier gaps between each position), from 11° to 30° you have medium AP tier(with lower AP tier gaps between each position) and after you just have low AP tier Star Rank.

Rookie and Junior league would definitely help people to try Arena even with low character help, so I completely agree.

Talking as someone who played lots of PvPs during S1~S3, this is in my opinion the biggest flaw of the current system that deters people to play PvP. Even more so when you must wait something like 40 seconds (at minimum) to find a PvP even if somebody else is in queue; this slows everything a lot, especially when you gotta play like 10 (or more) PvPs to get matched with someone with your same rank and still most likely get very little % in case of win.

In older seasons you would find the match instantly, always finding someone that mattered for your rank (even if a little, maybe in cases like low S+ vs high S++); there weren't completely useless PvPs at all, while now I literally have to play and win 15 PvPs in a row to advance by 1% (if not less) and I'm not even Star rank, mid-high S++. lol

I don't really see this happening soon unfortunately, but I think that if they "fixed" at least this, the PvP playerbase would rise again since you wouldn't have to waste so much time playing useless (and boring) PvPs. Like really getting to Star rank only playing 1v1s (like I'm trying to do) seems sooo long compared to "the old times" even with insane win/lose ratio, while usually in those seasons the top ranked players were pretty much only playing 1v1s (including myself).

This imo is a pretty big part of the issue. 2v2 is just way too overrated resulting in unreasonable gaps in terms of AP-Tier. Like my Anemos on low Star get's around 160 AP from Winning against other Players while my S++-Twilight only gains 75. The difference between those two is just way too large and it only increases for people higher on the board so I can see why the system doesn't match them with anyone anymore. Could be solved by seperating Team-Matches and 1v1s into two different Leaderboards or by nerfing Rank-Gain for Team-Matches to make 1v1 viable again. I'd also close the gap between ranks overall, make it such that ~5-10 Wins in a row against a similarly ranked opponent result in you going 1 Rank up instead of only getting like 25%-50% progress at best. Also start everyone out similarly each season. Don't spread them out over such a large variety of Ranks like this time.

On a sidenote, can we have the rewards based on class pls? ;)

  • Well lag is a major problem at least for me. I seem to be incredibly unlucky, because at whatever time I queue, a good percentage of my games is against some majorly laggy people. "My PvP" days were truthfully back in Season 1-3, already declining as soon as I went to UK and had to experience the lag situation there.

But of course it's not the only problem. I think NPCs should be able to help you get at max to S++ (but taking longer than normal players) just so you dont loaf around in queues for 300minutes again. The matching is a problem, and it needs to be reworked. Not based on AP, but on ranks.

+1 to that. There's just too much of a gap to make anything viable. Also having the top 50 players rewarded may seem fine, but looking at the rankings we quickly notice a lot of them play the same character or class, making the current ranking highly dependant on balance. It's also getting somewhat boring. With my Innocent, I so far had about 120 matches in official PvP, and almost 50 of them were Ravens and over 25 were Chungs. It shows very clearly what currently is meta, it is boring as heck to always play against the same types of abusing especially if there is lag involved.

So, people -do- see the same issue i see with PvP as it is right now. Very few 1v1 anymore simple cause it's 'too unrewarding' and the current -star-rankers don't even do it, which makes it pretty impossible to succeed at gaining ranks, even to S++ with 1v1 alone. Looking at some of the current star-rankers (yes, i spy on their win ratios), you'll see that -very few of them- have done many, if any, 1v1's. In my 166 1v1's, Only seen 2 S++ rankers, rest were S+/S and below, so stuck at S+ right now on my Anemos. Ever since the group matching was brough back, people are just forming +12 sweeping groups and dominating 2v2/3v3 as far as i can see, because it's simple to maintain the star rank that way. ( I could be wrong, but it feels that way). Hence, the -gaps in AP tiers- we're all seeing. Seprate rankings wouldn't solve the issue unless there was a change to the rank gain, as Tosan said.
